ATSA’s Public Policy Committee was created in 1999, with the aim of keeping the organization informed of political and legislative developments that shape policy on public safety in relation to sexual abuse. Since its creation, the committee has been very active in: 1) informing public policy at the federal, state, and local level in the United States; 2) supplying documents to ensure that practitioners, policy makers, and legislators are knowledgeable about practices and policies that support effective management of individuals who have committed or may be at risk of committing sexual abuse; 3) keeping the membership informed about ATSA’s public policy work on sex offender management; 4) providing support for public policy-oriented research; and 5) creating partnerships with other international organizations (e.g. NOTA, IATSO).

While these activities remain central for ATSA, the organization wishes to implement a strategy to incorporate international public policy (see ATSA’s 2010 Strategic Plan). To this end, a new discussion forum has been created to facilitate discussion among international members. Members can express their views on topics pertaining to international public policy in the discussion forum. To request information regarding the forum, contact The forum is currently an invitation-only discussion group.

Public policy links will be posted here in the future. Please check back soon for international resources.
