Public Education Award
The Public Education Award may be granted to recognize work by a journalist
from the press, television, or film that has advanced the public understanding
of relevant issues regarding sexual abuse and offending, as well as the
role of effective treatment in risk management.
Criteria
- The nominee must have made a significant contribution to public education
in the field of sexual abuse and/or sexual offender treatment;
- Their work must exemplify the communication of accurate information
grounded in the research literature and/or responsible and respectful
discussion and depiction of the pertinent issues related to sexual abuse
and/or sexual offenders.
Members and non-members of ATSA are eligible for this award. Members
of the Awards Committee and the ATSA Board of Directors shall be ineligible
for nomination.
Nomination Procedures
Nominations are open to the Membership.
To nominate a candidate for the Media Award:
- Submit a biographical sketch/resume of the nominee.
- Describe and provide a reference for the specific contribution(s)
that the nominee has made towards contributing to the public's understanding
of issues related to sexual abuse and/or sexual offender treatment.
- Nominations must be submitted to Jacqueline Page, Psy.D., Awards Committee Chair, by April 15, 2008.

Decision and Presentation
The Awards Committee will review the nominees and make recommendations
to the Board of Directors of the ATSA, who will vote on the Award. The
recipient will be informed by May, 2007 and the award will be presented
at the ATSA Annual Research and Treatment Conference in the Fall.
Award
- Plaque recognition award.
- Assistance to attend conference (amount of which would depend on if
other awards are presented that year, e.g., conference fee waived, 2
nights hotel, a dollar figure to be applied to air fare) NOTE: An effort
would be made to cost share expenses for recipients who are employed
in organizations with their employer. The recipient will also receive
tickets to the Speaker Event, Student Reception, and Award Luncheons.
