Award for Distinguished Practitioner

The Distinguished Practitioner Award may be granted to recognize an individual who, in their role as a full-time clinician, has demonstrated excellent and innovative clinical skills that have engaged clients in the process of change and advanced the state of sex offender treatment.

Criteria

  1. The nominee has demonstrated excellent skills in the delivery of individual counseling, group facilitating, couple, family therapy or medical interventions and has an established history of providing effective interventions with sexual abusers;


  2. The nominee has provided mentoring and clinical guidance to others;


  3. The nominee's clinical style and approach has been creative and resulted in innovations and advances in the clinical content and process in the treatment of sexual offenders.

Members of ATSA are eligible for this award. Members of the Awards Committee and the ATSA Board of Directors shall be ineligible for nomination.

Nomination Procedures

Nominations are open to the Membership.

To nominate a candidate for the Distinguished Practitioner Award:

  1. Submit a biographical sketch/resume of the nominee.


  2. Describe the clinical skills that distinguish the nominee and the way in which their clinical practice has advanced the treatment of sexual abusers.


  3. Include at least two letters of support from members of ATSA in addition to the nomination letter. At least one of the letters must come from an individual outside of the nominee's work place (e.g. agency, organization, department, institution, practice).


  4. Nominations must be submitted to Jacqueline Page, Psy.D., Awards Committee Chair, by April 15, 2008. Email to: jpage@utmem.edu .

Decision and Presentation

The Awards Committee will review the nominees and make recommendations to the Board of Directors of the ATSA, who will vote on the Award. The recipient will be informed by May, 2007 and the award will be presented at the ATSA Annual Research and Treatment Conference in the Fall.

Award

  • Plaque recognition award.
  • Assistance to attend conference (amount of which would depend on if other awards are presented that year, e.g., conference fee waived, 2 nights hotel, a dollar figure to be applied to air fare) NOTE: An effort would be made to cost share expenses for recipients who are employed in organizations with their employer. The recipient will also receive tickets to the Speaker Event, Student Reception, Membership and Award Luncheons.
